The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Akugbene-Mein Clan, Bomadi Western Zone HQ, celebrated International Youth Day, today August 12, 2025, with the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”. This theme highlights the crucial role young people play in driving positive change and achieving the Nigeria’s ‘Sustainable Development Goals.
The IYC, Akugbene-Mein Clan, led by Comr. Godwin Dortimiyerin Okaba, has been actively involved in promoting the unity and progress of the Bomadi LGA, and Ijaw ethnic nationality. And also vocal advocates for resource control, environmental justice, and self-determination in the Niger Delta region.
The IYC’s celebration of International Youth Day serves as a platform to recognize the contributions and potential of young people in shaping the future of their communities.
During this statement, the IYC Chairman, Comrade Godwin Dortimiyerin Okaba commended Hon. Dagidi Andaye, the visionary Executive Chairman of Bomadi LGA, for successfully commissioning 14 landmark projects in the area to mark his one-year in office anniversary.
The IYC, Akugbene-Mein Clan also expressed support for the Chairman, Hon. Dagidi Andaye’s call to Delta State Government for a higher institution in Bomadi, emphasizing that Education is crucial for the rural region and community’s future development.
He, the IYC Chairman, joyously appreciated His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, for the show of love and true governance to Bomadi people, and urged in appealing to our beloved Governor to consider this request for higher institution, which has been a longstanding cry and concern for the people of Bomadi LGA.
We once again, Thank You, Your Excellency, for we know that you’re capable of granting the immediate needs of Bomadi people.
