2027: Why I’m Contesting Burutu Federal Constituency — Fuoye
A petroleum economist and philanthropist from the Niger Delta, High Chief (Hon.) Thompson Fuoye, has declared that his bid to represent Burutu Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections is driven by a determination to attract greater federal government presence to the oil-rich area.
Fuoye, a former Special Assistant on Community and Rural Development to ex-Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa, made his intentions known during an interaction with Vanguard over the weekend. He is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Tuomo Ward 3, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The aspirant said his priority, if elected into the House of Representatives, would be to collaborate with fellow lawmakers to secure federal projects and institutions for his constituency, while promoting industrial development to create jobs for youths.
According to him, Burutu Federal Constituency—particularly the riverine communities in Burutu South—requires a strong voice capable of drawing federal attention to its developmental needs.
“My resolve to advocate for my constituents in the Green Chambers is driven by the ambition to attract federal attention to my constituency. There is a profound need for a voice that will beckon federal presence to the area,” he said.
Fuoye emphasized that his background as an Ijaw man born in northern Nigeria and educated in the Southwest positions him to build bridges across regions and effectively lobby for his constituency.
He lamented the developmental challenges facing the area, noting deficits in infrastructure and human capital development in riverine communities. He stressed that effective representation in the National Assembly would help address these gaps.
The philanthropist also pledged to pursue the establishment of factories and other employment-generating initiatives to engage the constituency’s growing youth population.
Fuoye added that his manifesto would focus on peace, unity, and empowerment, aimed at strengthening the people of Burutu Federal Constituency and fostering a shared sense of purpose.
