PDP Leaders Meet in Abuja to Chart Way Forward After Court Ruling

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday held a high-level consultative meeting in Abuja to deliberate on the party’s future and outline a path forward following a recent court ruling that vacated the party’s national executive positions.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders of the party, including members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), PDP governors, leaders of the National Assembly, state party chairmen and other prominent party figures.

Among those present was Rt. Hon. (Chief) Fred Agbedi, Ph.D, the leader of the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives and member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency, who joined other party leaders in discussing strategies to stabilize and reposition the party.

Speaking earlier on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Agbedi explained that following the court ruling, the party’s Board of Trustees described as the “conscience of the party”, alongside statutory members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), would oversee the management of the party’s affairs pending the conduct of a new national convention.

According to him, the arrangement is intended to ensure continuity in the party’s leadership structure while preparations are made for a convention that will usher in a new set of executives.

The joint meeting of the BoT and other stakeholders on Wednesday was convened under the leadership of the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President, who presided over deliberations on the future direction of the party.

Participants at the meeting discussed key issues affecting the party and emphasized the need for unity, internal cohesion and collective commitment among members as the PDP works toward reorganizing its leadership structure.

Party leaders also reiterated their commitment to strengthening the party’s democratic processes and ensuring that the forthcoming convention produces a credible and widely accepted leadership.

The meeting is part of ongoing consultations within the PDP aimed at maintaining stability within the party and positioning it effectively for future political engagements across the country.
