INEC’s Ward Delineation Conundrum in the Warri federal constituency: A Test of Resolve for Amupitan.
As Professor Joash Amupitan, the newly-appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assumes the mantle of leadership, I respectfully implore him to tackle the perennial conundrum of the Warri Federal Constituency electoral ward delineation issue with unwavering resolve. The Supreme Court’s unequivocal judgment, declaring the extant wards and units as fraudulent and non-existent, brooks no further equivocation. It is imperative that INEC, under Professor Amupitan’s stewardship, forthwith implements the INEC field report on Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation exercise, thereby restoring the integrity of the electoral process.
I humbly beseech Professor Amupitan to forthwith stay the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, pending the resolution of this issue. This prudent measure would preclude further complications and ensure that the electoral process is not besmirched by the taint of illegality. By taking decisive action, INEC would demonstrate its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the credibility of the electoral process.
To shy away from this issue would be to invite calamitous consequences. The specter of electoral disputes, violence, and instability would loom large, casting a pall of uncertainty over the 2027 general electionsin the Warri federal constituency.. The credibility of INEC would be irreparably damaged, and the trust of the electorate would be lost. The consequences of such a scenario would be dire, with far-reaching implications for the stability and progress of our beloved Constituency. I have every confidence that Professor Amupitan and INEC will rise to the challenge and ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
Let us fervently hope that INEC, under Professor Amupitan’s leadership, will demonstrate the requisite courage and resolve to tackle this issue head-on, as directed by the supreme Court of Nigerian in a land mark judgement, thereby ensuring that the electoral process is not only credible but also worthy of the trust and confidence of the Nigerian people.
