Kelly Penawou, the Real Architect of the Political Tension in Bomadi LGA
It has become increasingly evident that the recent attempt by a few misguided Councillors within the Bomadi Legislative Arm to initiate impeachment proceedings against the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye, is neither organic nor well-intentioned. Rather, it appears to be the product of calculated manipulation by Hon. Kelly Penawou, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who seems either threatened by or openly jealous of the fast-rising profile and wide acceptance of the Council Chairman among the people.
Ironically, Kelly Penawou remains the longest-serving Chairman in the history of Bomadi Local Government, yet his tenure was marked by minimal impact and little to show in terms of sustainable development. In stark contrast, the achievements recorded by Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye in just one year have surpassed what was accomplished over several years of Kelly’s administration, an undeniable fact evident even to the most indifferent observer.
Credible information indicates that these Councillors were allegedly advised by Kelly Penawou that threats of impeachment would coerce the Chairman into submission and force negotiations for personal gain, including financial inducements. Such counsel exposes not only poor judgment but a desperate and deliberate attempt to destabilize the Local Government for selfish interests rather than genuine service to the people.
However, this scheme has clearly failed. Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye has demonstrated uncommon resolve and will not yield to intimidation, blackmail, or opportunistic politics. Leadership anchored on integrity and performance cannot be shaken by tactics rooted in envy and resentment.
It is therefore imperative that Kelly Penawou desists from instigating political tension and undermining democratic governance in Bomadi Local Government. The Council is presently led by one of the most result-driven and widely celebrated Chairmen in Nigeria, who deserves the space and stability required to continue delivering meaningful progress to the people.
As for the Councillors who allowed themselves to be drawn into this ill-conceived venture for personal benefit, history will be the ultimate judge. Political ambition should never eclipse responsibility to the people.
Bomadi deserves development, not recycled bitterness disguised as strategy.
