HISTORIC REUNION OF ASABA AND EZHIONUM COMMUNITIES AFTER, 300 YEARS AT OGWA UKWU AHABA.

On February 7, 2026, a momentous occasion took place in Asaba Kingdom, marking the historic reunion of Asaba and Ezhionum communities after over 300 years of separation. The Ezhie of Ezhionum Kingdom, HRM Comr. Evang. R.C Osanwuta (JP), and his entourage were warmly welcomed to their ancestral homeland by HRM Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON.

The Monarch, HRM Asagba Azinge, reiterated that this reunion is a significant step towards fostering unity among Asaba people far and near. He recalled the peace resolution between Ezeanyanwu and Ahaba upon his ascension to the throne and noted that the consultations and findings made it clear that Asaba and Ezhionum communities share a common ancestry. The monarch emphasized that “Nwanne Di Na Mba” (brotherhood knows no boundaries) and promised to bring the Ezeugboma village of Umuezei quarters into the scheme of things in Asaba Kingdom.

HRM Asagba Azinge stated that this reunion is an opportunity to rewrite their history and chart a new path for the future. He urged the Asaba History and Documentation committee to incorporate this event into their documentation and report back by March ending. The monarch also extended an invitation to the Ezhionum community to attend Asaba Kingdom’s festivals and vice versa.

The Ezhie of Ezhionum community, HRM Evang. R.C Osanwuta, thanked God Almighty for this day and expressed gratitude to Asagba Azinge and the Asaba community for the warm reception. He acknowledged the Nna Agu’s efforts in reaching out to them and emphasized the importance of their relationship.

The Secretary of Ezhionum Development Association, Dr. Orin Emmanuel Ndudi, presented gifts to HRM Asagba Azinge as a symbol of their appreciation, while Obi Agbogidi Nduka Samuel Ogochukwu presented gifts to the Ezhie of Ezhionum community. The event featured cultural performances, including Otu Onye Weli dance band, Onye zusia nwa Aguba dance group, and Egwu ota.

This historic reunion marks a new chapter in the relationship between Asaba and Ezhionum communities, and both parties have expressed their commitment to work together for the development and prosperity of their people.
