Abuja polls: Wike relocates Port Harcourt “war team” to Abuja

Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Nyesom Wike has exported his “war-tested, hardened” loyalists to Abuja for the Saturday, February 21, 2026, Areas Council elections, The Neighbourhood can authoritatively report.

The men have been charged, a credible source told this medium, to “deliver all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC.” And Wike’s “War Room” strategists have mapped the men into groups with specific duty line, includiig inside liaison with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. What they have down is a verbatim exportation of their style they used in Rivers State in 2015 and 2023.

A credible source in the Wike camp told The Neighbourhood early Thursday that “Wike is leaving nothing to chance in this council election. And it is either we deliver or nothing.”

Wike, in mind of the herculean task in defeating the influence of Mr. Peter Obi and the “Obidients” in Abuja, began earlier preparations.

First, he moved some of his former Commissioners and core loyalists to Abuja, where he tied them with juicy appointments and roles. So, at this time, Wike has indeed activated his “Rivers machinery” in Abuja to manage the February 21 Area Council elections. Several of his high-ranking former commissioners have transitioned into strategic roles – some official and some advisory – to help him execute the “Tinubu-must-win” directive.

As of February 19, 2026, investigations done by this medium show the presence of the key figures in the FCT.

While many of his former aides remain in Rivers State to navigate the recent cabinet dissolution by Governor Siminalayi Fubara on February 12, 2026, and also manage the two by-elections in Ahoada East Constituency 11 and Khana Constituency 11, respectively, Wike has pulled his most trusted “General Staff” into the FCT to oversee the election logistics.

Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN, a former Justice Commissioner, is currently in Abuja acting as a Lead Legal Consultant to the FCT Minister. His presence is critical as the ADC and other opposition parties have threatened legal action over Wike’s “imperial” comments. Adangor is reportedly coordinating the legal “defence wall” to handle any post-election petitions.

Barr. Isaac Kamalu, former Finance Commissioner, but now a Senior Special Advisor to Wike in the FCT, Kamalu is tasked with what insiders call “logistical jarmonization.” Effectively, he manages the resources required for the APC campaign across the six Area Councils, ensuring that the “Wike doctrine” is backed by the necessary funding and machinery.

Dr. Alabo George-Kelly, a former Works Commissioner, though was appointed as the Executive Secretary of the Border Communities Development Agency, BCDA, by President Bola Tinubu, George-Kelly remains a core member of Wike’s kitchen cabinet. He has been spotted at high-level strategy meetings in Abuja this week, reportedly focusing on “voter mobilisation” in the rural wards of AMAC and Kuje. Those men are expected to lead the Minister’s “strategic enforcers team” in the Federal Capital Territory.

The wholesale dissolution of the Rivers State Executive Council by Governor Siminalayi Fubara opened another window for Wike and his men. There are reports of an exodus of Wike-aligned politicians from Port Harcourt to Abuja over the last 72 hours. These individuals, now temporarily out of state office, have reportedly been drafted into a Special Campaign Monitoring Committee for the Saturday polls.

Their mission is to replicate the “Rivers model” of grassroots control in Abuja to ensure the APC avoids a repeat of the 2023 Peter Obi landslide.

Summary of Wike’s Abuja “War Room” as at February 19, 2026, and roles in the February 21 polls.

Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor – Justice/Legal defence and INEC liaison.

Isaac Kamalu – Campaign logistics and funding coordination.

Alabo George-Kelly – Grassroots mobilization/strategy.

Amb. Desmond Akawor – Federal Commissioner (RMAFC); advisory on ward-level structures for Wike in Abuja.

Many in Abuja see Wike’s moves as danger to free and fair polls. The presence of these “battle-hardened” veterans from the Rivers political theatre has heightened tensions in Abuja. Opposition candidates from the ADC and Labour Party have raised concerns that these loyalists are not in Abuja for administration, but for “political engineering.” They argue that bringing in experts in “state-level tactics” to a local council election is a clear attempt to override the will of the FCT voters through superior, and often aggressive, organisational force.
