Good Governance and Political Development: A Call for Responsible Leadership and Active Citizen Participation
The Delta Agenda for Good Governance Voice for Democracy (DAGG-VD) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to promoting good governance, democratic values, political inclusion, accountability, and sustainable development across Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
As the nation prepares for future electoral activities, it has become increasingly important for citizens, political leaders, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, youths, women, and stakeholders to work together in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that governance remains people-centered.
Good governance is the foundation of every progressive society. It is built on the principles of transparency, accountability, justice, equity, respect for the rule of law, responsible leadership, and efficient service delivery. Citizens deserve leaders who place public interest above personal ambition and who are committed to delivering quality education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic opportunities, security, and social welfare.
Political development goes beyond winning elections. It involves nurturing democratic culture, promoting issue-based campaigns, encouraging political participation, empowering young people and women, and building institutions that inspire public confidence. Elections should serve as a platform for presenting practical solutions to societal challenges rather than promoting division, violence, or misinformation.
DAGG-VD calls on political actors to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, respecting democratic principles and engaging citizens with meaningful policy discussions. We also encourage voters to register, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), participate peacefully in elections, and vote based on competence, integrity, capacity, and a clear vision for development.
The organization further urges government institutions at all levels to strengthen transparency, improve public accountability mechanisms, and create opportunities for meaningful citizen engagement in governance. Development can only be achieved when leaders remain accountable to the people they serve.
As part of our civic engagement initiatives, DAGG-VD will continue to organize public enlightenment campaigns, policy dialogues, leadership summits, voter education programmes, youth empowerment initiatives, and interactive sessions designed to deepen democratic participation and promote inclusive governance.
We believe that the future of Delta State and Nigeria depends on collective responsibility. Every citizen has a role to play in building a peaceful, united, prosperous, and democratic society where justice, fairness, and equal opportunities prevail.
