I am deeply honoured to be named Defender of Democracy and Human Rights 2025 by Montage Africa Media, publishers of the New National Star. This recognition takes me back to my days in the trenches, fighting alongside many others for the democracy we enjoy today. Of all the awards I have received, this one is special because it speaks to the very cause I have dedicated my life to – protecting democracy and safeguarding the rights of our people. These are the pillars that sustain any nation.
For me, defending democracy means ensuring that the people have the power to choose their leaders, hold them accountable, and remove them if they fail. It is about preserving our collective heritage and managing our God-given resources for the benefit of all. Defending human rights is about ensuring every Nigerian’s dignity and liberty are respected – that is the true test of patriotism.
This award is a reminder that my actions are being watched, and it renews my commitment to stand for what is right, advocate for internal party democracy, and promote leadership that serves the people, not the godfathers.
I thank Montage Africa Media and New National Star for this honour. I assure you – and all Nigerians – that I will continue to be a voice for democracy and human rights, no matter the cost.
