ELECTION 2027: SSGF Throws Weight Behind First-Term Governors

The South-South Governors Forum has expressed strong support to all first-term Governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, the forum commended the APC governors for what it described as visionary leadership, commitment to good governance, and dedication to the development of their respective states.

Governor Diri noted that the first-term governors have distinguished themselves through impactful governance, particularly in advancing grassroots development and strengthening the economic fortunes of their states and the nation at large.

According to the statement, the South-South Governors Forum is proud of the remarkable strides recorded by the governors in key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and social welfare.

The forum emphasized that governors have remained focused on delivering democratic dividends to the people, despite economic and administrative challenges confronting the country.

The forum added that the governors’ performance in office have inspired confidence among citizens in their respective states, and demonstrated the capacity of democratic leadership and governance to transform lives.

The SSGF further stated that granting the governors a second term mandate would consolidate the gains already achieved and pave the way for greater infrastructural development, economic prosperity, and improved living standards across their states.

The forum expressed optimism that the APC governorship primaries would be conducted peacefully, transparently, and in line with democratic principles.

“On behalf of the South-South Governors Forum, I appeal for a peaceful and successful governorship primaries. We are confident that democratic ideals will prevail to continue their outstanding service to their people will be duly rewarded by the APC faithful,” the statement read.

The statement reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to unity, cooperation, and support to party leaders, stakeholders working towards sustainable growth in their respective states, and national development of peaceful coexistence.

The message was signed by Governor Douye Diri in his capacity as Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum.
