I believe that the principle of “Legitimacy” versus “Morality,” which Dr. Barry Pere Gbe has consistently propagated, provides a useful framework for resolving this unfortunate imbroglio. Indeed, it offers a pathway through which all parties can rise above entrenched positions and place the collective interest of the people above personal claims and considerations.

It is against this backdrop that I respectfully advise Prince Doubra Baro to consider setting aside his legitimate right and embrace the path of peace for the sake of morality. There is no doubt that legitimacy confers certain rights and entitlements. However, there are moments in human affairs when the exercise of a legitimate right must be weighed against its broader consequences on society. In such circumstances, morality often demands a higher level of responsibility, sacrifice, and statesmanship.
The moral burden in the present situation is particularly significant because human lives are at stake. When the safety, security, and well being of innocent people are threatened, it becomes difficult to justify rigid adherence to positions based solely on legitimacy. This is not a time for grandstanding or for asserting rights at all costs. Rather, it is a time for wisdom, restraint, and a sincere commitment to preserving peace and protecting lives.

From an ethical standpoint, the most moral course of action is often the one that promotes the greatest happiness and well being for the greatest number of people. This principle, which is widely recognized in moral and political philosophy, encourages individuals and leaders alike to prioritize the common good above personal interests. Several ethical theories support the view that when faced with competing claims, the option that minimizes suffering and maximizes societal welfare should prevail.

For this reason, I urge Prince Dobra Baro and all other stakeholders to carefully consider the wider implications of their decisions. A voluntary sacrifice made in the interest of peace is not a sign of weakness; rather, it is a demonstration of courage, leadership, and genuine concern for the people whose lives may be affected by the outcome of this dispute.
Above all, we must not lose sight of those who are most vulnerable. Our children, who have no voice in these matters, should not be made to bear the consequences of actions taken by adults. They deserve safety, stability, and the opportunity to grow up in an environment free from fear and conflict. Let us therefore choose the path that protects them and secures a peaceful future for our communities.
History has a way of judging individuals not merely by the rights they possessed, but by the choices they made when confronted with difficult circumstances. The greatest leaders are often remembered not for insisting on what was legally theirs, but for sacrificing personal interests in pursuit of peace, justice, and the common good. If legitimacy and morality appear to stand at opposite ends of the scale, the noblest choice is the one that preserves life, promotes harmony, and safeguards the future of the next generation. May wisdom prevail over pride, and may peace triumph over conflict.
