First Bank MD Receives Death Threat; Police Launch Investigation
The Managing Director of First Bank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, has been targeted by a serious death threat at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos. Reports indicate that an envelope containing two live military-grade bullets was delivered to his home via a dispatch rider and handed to his security personnel.
There was no accompanying note or letter included with the package.
Investigation Update:
The Lagos State Police Command has officially confirmed that a high-level investigation into the incident is underway. According to the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, the bank executive has already provided authorities with a list of potential suspects to assist in the inquiry.
Underlying Tensions:
While the investigation continues, industry insiders have linked the threat to two ongoing operational shifts within First Bank:
Internal Restructuring: The bank is currently undergoing a significant reorganization process.
Aggressive Debt Recovery: Reports suggest that the institution has intensified efforts to recover multi-billion Naira debts from prominent individuals, leading to speculation that the intimidation attempt may be a response to these stringent recovery measures.
